When we began the Atención Book Club, we had no idea how much interest there would be. After all, there are many book clubs in this cityāwhy create another one?
Ours is unique because we feature local authors and ensure that they are present at the event.
That gives the audience an opportunity to ask direct questions and explore issues that only the writer can answer. We have held four presentations, and they have been remarkably different in genre and content: a collection of short stories, two memoirs, and a work of historical fiction. We certainly have no lack of variety.
What has been especially gratifying is the attendance and enthusiasm of our audiences. Each event drew more than twenty people, and their eager participation has been as pleasing as it has been surprising.
There has been no need to generate questionsāthey come pouring from audience members.
Our next event is Tuesday, July 28, at 3:00 p.m. at Casa Nigromante, UmarÔn 38.
Featured author Natalie Taylor will discuss The Tango House, a memoir that chronicles her more than a decade immersion in the world of tango. It reveals the strange, fascinating rituals and mores of the tango community in Buenos Aires. Its anecdotes span the full range of human emotions: love, hate, despair, and moments that are downright funny.
The book is available on Amazon and locally at the Tesoros book store at the Biblioteca, and at Aurora BooksĀ on Calzada de la Aurora. We hope to see you at our next book club event for an opportunity to hear from and engage with the author.
No reservations needed. Free Event.
