This October, our town will host two remarkable equestrian events that highlight the beauty, diversity, and cultural richness of the horse world. From the international prestige of the Otomí Grand Prix show jumping to the tradition and artistry of Working Equitation, residents and visitors alike will have the chance to see firsthand the extraordinary partnership between horse and rider.
Otomí Grand Prix: International Show Jumping in San Miguel de Allende
From October 8–12, 2025, the Otomí Equestrian Club in San Miguel de Allende will host the Otomí Grand Prix, an international show jumping event that brings world-class competition to our town.
This year’s program includes CSI 5*, CSI 2*, and CSI 3* categories, all prestigious levels in the international jumping circuit. Horses and riders at this level demonstrate peak athleticism, combining strength, agility, and precision as they clear towering fences against the clock, and CSI 3* also takes place from October 16 to 19. Spectators can expect thrilling rounds where a fraction of a second or a single rail can determine the winner. Beyond the sport, the Otomí Grand Prix creates a festive atmosphere, drawing visitors, trainers, and fans from around the globe.
As one organizer noted, “The energy of show jumping is contagious. You don’t have to know anything about horses to enjoy it: the speed, the jumps, the excitement in the arena speak for themselves.”
For families, sports fans, and horse lovers alike, the Otomí Grand Prix is a rare opportunity to experience international competition close to home.
Working Equitation: Tradition Meets Sport
Originating in southern Europe, Working Equitation (WE) blends sport with cultural heritage. Inspired by the practical riding styles of cattlemen and field workers, the discipline tests skill, agility, and harmony between horse and rider while also preserving traditional horsemanship.
Competitions feature four trials: a Dressage test for precision, an Ease of Handling trial with obstacles like gates and bridges, a timed Speed trial for adrenaline, and a Cattle trial when included.
What sets WE apart is its cultural display. Riders compete in traditional costumes, with tack reflecting their home regions, turning the arena into a living showcase of history and heritage.
“This event is more than a competition, it’s a chance for the public to experience the adrenaline, the beauty, and the tradition of Working Equitation all in one place,” said the event organizer.
The public is invited to enjoy WE on Sunday, October 26th, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and follow @eventosecuestressma. Expect breathtaking horses, exciting courses, and a vibrant cultural celebration, Wright here in our town.
A Celebration for Our Community
Together, these two October events reveal the incredible range of equestrian sport. From the soaring jumps of international show jumping to the artistry and tradition of Working Equitation, both gatherings promise something special for horse lovers and newcomers alike.
Mark your calendars, bring family and friends, and join our community in celebrating the beauty and tradition of horses this October.
