Climate change is no longer just an environmental concern—it is a growing global security challenge. It has been said that the next wars may be driven not by ideology or territory, but by the consequences of climate change itself. Increasingly described as a “threat multiplier,” climate change intensifies political instability, humanitarian crises, and conflict worldwide. These urgent connections will be explored in a timely public talk presented by i3: ideas that inform & inspire.
Conversation with Big Thinkers
On Tuesday, March 10th at 5:00 p.m., i3 welcomes Sherri Goodman to La Casona Event Center for her lecture, Threat Multiplier: Climate and Global Security in the 21st Century. This event is the final program of i3’s 2025/2026 season, concluding a year of thought-provoking conversations with leading voices.
Climate, Conflict, and Security
Drawing on decades of experience, Goodman will examine how rising temperatures, water scarcity, and extreme weather are reshaping global security priorities. She will explore their impact on international relations, migration, and military planning, and discuss how governments and institutions can respond through cooperation, resilience, and leadership.

She served as the U.S. Department of Defense’s first Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Environmental Security and is currently Secretary General of the International Military Council on Climate and Security.
