Located just a short downhill walk to the town square, Atascadero provides close proximity to the heart of the city. It’s a Neighborhood with deep roots and creative spirit: Originally a sprawling hacienda with orchards and grazing land, Atascadero has long been a peaceful escape. Today, it offers larger lots and more privacy than many other upscale neighborhoods.
At the neighborhood’s entrance stands the historic Suites Santo Domingo, born of German immigrant Guillermo Engelbrecht’s post-WWI vision. By 1949, his apartment complex became a hub for expatriates and artists affiliated with the nearby Instituto Allende, helping to seed San Miguel’s artistic legacy.
Further up the road lies Hotel Rancho Atascadero, housed in a grand 1800s hacienda once part of a silk plantation led by Hipólito Chambón. The area flourished again in the 1930s under the charismatic Peruvian writer and visionary Felipe Cossío del Pomar. His influence transformed the neighborhood into a haven for creatives — poets like Pablo Neruda and Gabriela Mistral, painters, and philosophers among them — who gathered in Los Arcos–Atascadero, inspired by its tranquil beauty.
Come to a Public Open House to see the charm of the Atascadero neighborhood, this Thursday, visit Agua 3-A from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Real estate talk and refreshment. See Casa Leonora, price reduction to $475,000 USD, an impeccably maintained home, contemporary comfort with rich Mexican craftsmanship throughout.
