Can Artificial Intelligence Be a Force for Peace? Branka Panic speaks at i3 on Tuesday, February 10

By Lisa Muhn

As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly woven into daily life, urgent questions arise about its impact on society, security, and human values. Will these powerful technologies deepen conflict—or can they be guided toward cooperation and peace? That question will be at the center of an upcoming public talk presented by i3: ideas that inform & inspire.

A Conversation with Big Thinkers. On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 5:00 pm, i3 welcomes Branka Panic for her lecture, Is AI Coming in Peace? Harnessing Technology to Prevent Conflict, at La Casona Event Center. The event is part of i3’s ongoing speaker series, which brings leading thinkers from around the world to San Miguel de Allende for thoughtful, accessible conversations on timely global issues. Founded in 2016, i3 is a local nonprofit organization that hosts six or more public lectures each season. i3 is committed to connecting the community with prominent voices in science, health, politics, culture, and the environment, encouraging informed dialogue around the issues shaping our future.

AI Beyond the Battlefield In her talk, Panic will explore how artificial intelligence—often associated with warfare, surveillance, and dystopian futures—is also being used to prevent violence and support peacebuilding efforts. Drawing on real-world case studies, she will highlight AI-powered early warning systems, tools for mediation, and emerging approaches to protecting human rights. She will also address the ethical challenges that arise when deploying AI in politically and socially sensitive contexts, including questions of bias, accountability, and governance.

About the Speaker Branka Panic is the Founding Director of AI for Peace and a widely recognized leader in the field of responsible artificial intelligence. She has advised governments and international institutions, served as a Senior Advisor on AI at the German Federal Foreign Office, and is a Non-Resident Fellow at New York University’s Center on International Cooperation. She is co-author of AI for Peace and author of the forthcoming book Foreign Policy at the AI Frontier: How AI is Reshaping Progress, Power, and Peace, to be published later this year.

Event DetailsTickets: $325 pesos in advance, $350 pesos at the door. Tickets and information are available at www.i3sma.org.
