On Sunday, January 18th at 7:00 p.m., JC3/CHESMA will present a special staged reading of The Dumbwaiter, Harold Pinter’s acclaimed one-act play. This darkly comic drama stars two accomplished performers: Fil Formicola and Alan Jacobson, both longtime Actor’s Equity and SAG members bringing decades of experience to this intimate production.
The Dumbwaiter is about two hitmen, Ben and Gus, who are waiting in a dingy basement room for their next assignment. As they pass the time with increasingly absurd conversations, mysterious food orders begin to arrive via a dumbwaiter—though no one knows where they’re coming from. The tension builds as the characters spiral through confusion, paranoia, and confrontation. A classic example of Pinter’s “comedy of menace,” the play explores themes of alienation, existential dread, and the breakdown of communication.
The reading features Fil Formicola, a San Miguel favorite known for his rich baritone and dynamic stage presence. Before moving to México, Formicola built a distinguished career in the U.S., appearing in numerous musical productions and guest-starring on well-known television series. Sharing the stage is Alan Jacobson, in his first acting role in San Miguel and first stage performance since 1998. A New York-based actor, appeared Off-Broadway, in regional theatre, on national tours, and in American soap operas.
Also at the JC3 will be a one-woman tribute to the music of Barbra Streisand, Bette Midler, and Carole King on January 24th at 7:30 PM. Aptly called Barbra, Bette, and Carol, it stars Melissa Boher Jacobson, who toured the show in the US for several years.
This is a one-night-only event and seating is limited — early reservations are encouraged.
The performance will take place at JC3/CHESMA, located at Calle de las Moras 47 (at Calle Cinco de Mayo), San Miguel de Allende.
Tickets are available by calling JC3/CHESMA at 415 185 9191 or emailing shalomsanmiguel@gmail.com

Wonderful door-opening pieces today. I'm back in town after being gone for 3 months or so and will definitely go see performances at jc3 which I had never been aware of , and will definitely go find canal 16! One thing I wondered about in cathi's comments about the jardín -- I've never actually seen the adolescent boys and girls going in different directions , heard about it for years and years in different places and different times, but in all my sits out there in the jardín i have not seen that . Is there a particular day or time ? Anyway thanks so much for putting this together !
