Write On! A New Name, a New Author Presentation

By Catherine Marenghi
The Atención Book Club is changing its name. In recognition of its core purpose – celebrating local authors – the monthly series is now Atención Presents: San Miguel Authors.
“Our inspiration for the series was a commitment to supporting our local literary community,” said Camie Fenton, publisher of Atención News. “But what we’ve created is not a book club in the traditional sense, but a showcase of outstanding local authors.”
The series will continue to present live author presentations that are free and open to the public. They will be held at the Casa Nigromante, the historic birthplace of Ignacio Ramírez, which is managed by the University of Guanajuato. “We are grateful to the University of Guanajuato and to Adrian Santana and his team for their generous support,” Fenton added.

The October 27th event will feature Carrie Classon, author of Loon Point. The novel is set in the rugged Northern Woods, in a remote resort Norry Last inherited from her father. She settles in for another springtime lull. But when a blizzard hits, the little cabins by the lake start to fill up fast. Her companions include Lizzie, an eight-year-old neglected by her mother; Wendell, a cantankerous older man; and Bud, the helpful handyman. These unlikely friendships turn Norry’s bitterness into surprising joy.
Classon is a performer and nationally syndicated columnist with Andrews McMeel Universal. Born in Minnesota, she had a 14-year career in the theater. Loon Point is her debut novel. She is also author of the forthcoming novel The Turnip House (January 2027), and Blue Yarn: A Memoir About Loss, Letting Go, and What Happens Next (2019).
Catherine Marenghi is the author of five books and an active member of the San Miguel literary community.
