Art transcends time, culture, and language, serving as a mirror to the human experience.
Its value lies not only in aesthetic beauty but also in its ability to evoke emotions, provoke thought, and inspire change. Warren Buffet is quoted as saying “price is what you pay, value is what you get.” One of my most recent careers was in vintage and antique resale. My partner and
I would spend hours attending estate sales and there was always one common thread. You could immediately tell what brought the person(s) joy and what they valued most. A treasured collection pieced together from extensive travels. Art, books, jewelry. So many treasures wove a delicate story of a life well lived and enjoyed.
For those of us who create and sell our art, there’s no greater feeling than when someone covets a piece you’ve created and they have purchased. Creating art gives me immense joy, but seeing the joy it brings to someone else is the real value. In an ever changing, often chaotic world, art remains a timeless testament to what brings us true joy and adds value to our lives.
From Friday November 7th through Wednesday November 12th Galeria Potranca will hold a very special exhibition and sale featuring the San Miguel Quilters, a group of 15 women from México, Venezuela, Canada and the United States who have been quilting together for more than twenty years. Many quilts in the exhibition represent over 100 hours of work! Over the years, they have contributed more than 40 group quilts to support San Miguel’s charitable organizations, such as Niños con Autismo, Hospice San Miguel, Caminos de Agua, Sociedad Audubon de México, to Ojalá Niños, SPA and many more. This year, a group ‘mystery quilt’ will be raffled to benefit EEESMA School for the Deaf, with 10 percent of all sales during the show also donated to EEESMA.
Featured emerging artists in November:
For jewelry designer and Sanmiguelense Hugo García, creativity and craftsmanship run deep in his families roots. Both Hugo’s grandfather, who could make anything with his hands and Hugo’s father, a skilled artisan had a huge impact on Hugo’s future as a jewelry designer. Hugo would spend hours in his father’s workshop watching him work, often distracting him from his homework! For the last fifteen years Hugo worked and honed his craft working with other jewelers in México and in the United States. In 2025, he decided to launch his own jewelry line. Hugo mainly works in sterling silver and 24K gold dipped along with semi-precious stones, natural turquoise among them. You can tell by the intricate workmanship of his pieces, Hugo takes great pride in his work. Hugo has been at Galeria Potranca for just a few months and has already garnered a loyal following, many of his fellow gallery artists among them!
