It’s known that image often speaks before we do, working with a fashion stylist can feel like a luxury. But for stylist Itzraeli Ocaranza, it is far more profound: a tool for  confidence and personal transformation. In this interview, she shares what a fashion stylist really does, and how consulting one can elevate everyday life.

What exactly does the work of a fashion stylist involve?

Being a stylist or image consultant is one of the most powerful things that has happened in my life, and I say that because my work transforms lives through image, but with coherence. I help people project harmony between who they are inside and how they present themselves to the world. We all belong in society. We attend meetings, events, dinners, cultural and professional commitments. And before we say a single word, our look has already spoken for us. My role is to ensure that message is clear, direct, authentic, and aligned with the stage of life each person is living. It’s not about looking trendy. It’s about looking confident, appropriate, and true to your essence.

What types of servicesdo you offer?

I provide comprehensive, personalized image consulting. We analyze style, color, proportions, and something very important: we work inside the client’s actual closet. Many times, our wardrobes hold memories, stories, past versions of ourselves. We honor those, but we also create space for new energy aligned with the present. The closet is an intimate space. When we organize it strategically, something internal organizes as well.

After that, we do personal shopping aligned with the strategy we’ve built. We finish with curated look creation. That part is magical, because you start to see yourself differently. You discover versions of yourself that may have always been there, but you didn’t know how to express them. My focus is simple: helping people dress well every day and find in their image an anchor of confidence to step into the world with greater security and ease.

What is the process like from first contact to final delivery?

First, make sure the client knows this is a private and safe space. Everything begins with an honest conversation. I want to know about their routine, the spaces they frequent, the music that moves them, the colors that excite them, which part of themselves they want to enhance, and most importantly, how they want to feel. Then I conduct color analysis, silhouette evaluation, and natural style assessment. We work with what already exists in their closet, and if necessary, we make strategic purchases. We create complete outfits and compile everything into a personalized image manual. This becomes a visual and practical guide for everyday life. The goal is confidence, and something extremely valuable: free time and mental clarity.

What tools do you use?

I use technical tools such as colorimetry analysis, proportion studies, personal style evaluation, body language observation, and trend analysis according to the client’s age and environment. But beyond technique, I listen. Image is emotional. You cannot dress someone well if you don’t understand what they are living.

What is the most common mistake people make when dressing?

I don’t like to talk about “mistakes,” because everyone has the right to express themselves however they choose through clothing, that’s the beauty of individuality. However, many times we dress without intention. We dress to please, to avoid discomfort, or simply on impulse, without asking whether a garment truly represents our lifestyle or personality. Image should add security, not subtract it. It should make you feel more like yourself, not less.

How can a styling session improve someone’s life?

It simplifies it and elevates it. It saves time, prevents unnecessary purchases, and eliminates closet frustration. But on a deeper level, it improves how a person perceives themselves. When someone feels well dressed, they walk differently. They participate differently in society. They relate to others differently. Image is not superficial. It is communication and self-esteem in action.

Have you witnessed emotional changes in your clients?

Yes, and that is the most beautiful part of my work. I’ve seen people rediscover enthusiasm for getting dressed. I’ve seen them enjoy going out again and feel more present. I’ve seen couples reconnect when one partner decides to show up renewed. I’ve seen clients moved to tears when they discover a version of themselves they never imagined possible. Honestly, my work is a blessing, and I love it deeply. A well-crafted image does not transform who you are. It simply makes your best version visible.

What becomes evident through Itzraeli’s work is that consulting a stylist is not reserved for celebrities or special occasions. It is a practical investment in daily life. When getting dressed stops being a source of stress and becomes a source of certainty, everything else flows more easily. And perhaps that is the real luxury: waking up each morning already feeling aligned with yourself.
