October in San Miguel brings beautiful sunny days with cooler evenings. The rainy afternoons are beginning the taper off. It’s time to start bring out sweaters and jackets.

Fiesta de San Miguel Arcángel

The celebrations surrounding San Miguel’s patron saint continue. The spectacular La Alborada takes place in the early morning of October 3rd October 4th and symbolizes the victory of San Miguel over darkness, of good over evil. It is believed that St. Michael led the angels in the battle against Satan.

The Vendimias

Every year, San Miguel de Allende hosts one of México’s most anticipated wine celebrations — the harvest season. Known as vendimias, these festivals celebrate the grape harvest and bring together wine enthusiasts, food lovers, and travelers from across the country. Guanajuato is one of the premier wine growing regions in México. During vendimia season, visitors can enjoy far more than just wine tastings. Imagine sipping award-winning vintages while pairing them with both traditional Mexican dishes and gourmet cuisine, all surrounded by the festive spirit of harvest. Until October 19th, thirty-one vineyards will host their own vendimia, offering a unique taste of Guanajuato’s wine scene.

Viñedos Santa Catalina – October 4th: One of San Miguel’s most beautiful vineyard settings combines architecture, gastronomy, and wine into a spectacular harvest event.

Viña Gamar, Dolores Hidalgo– October 11th: Located in the cradle of Mexican Independence, this vineyard brings together history and wine with a celebration full of flavor.

Museo del Vino, Dolores Hidalgo – October 18th: The Wine Museum will host its own festival, showcasing Guanajuato’s deep connection to viticulture.

Day of the Dead preparations

By the second half of the month, San Miguel begins to transform. Marigolds, papel picado, Catrinas and elaborate altars start appearing throughout the city.

The Exposición de Altares de Día de Muertos begins October 26th, while La Calaca Festival is scheduled for October 30th–November 2nd.

October gives San Miguel a wonderful combination of comfortable weather, traditional fiestas, wine, music, art and the beginning of Day of the Dead season. It is a particularly good month for walking the streets and sitting in the Jardín.
