Atención: Day Trips. A Search For The Ladies

This month it’s not about our visiting a vineyard so much as about discovering a nice spot to take our ladies to dinner. Some place out of the way and not a tourist mecca. The old geezers I travel with like a laid back atmosphere and soft music.  They got really excited when I told them that we were headed to the town of Morales

The drive to Morales is about 20 minutes from San Miguel on the road to Celaya. We have already visited the San Miguel Winery but today we slide just past that winery and make slight right turn into Morales As you leave the highway and enter the cobblestone and dirt streets you have the feeling this is the real Mexico. The air carries a blend of dry earth and OK – to further set the scene - subtle scent of livestock milling in the streets—an invitation to slow down and breathe.

By following the signs you eventually arrive at the railroad tracks and the entrance to Los Remedios Winery and Restaurant Arriving at the vineyard, you’re not surrounded by rows of grape vines, these are planted on properties surrounding the town.  The beautiful grape vines, olive and peach trees are there but not surrounding us as we drive in. The architecture is a graceful fusion of rustic hacienda charm and elegant modern design: muted stone walls, cool shaded patios, and wide archways that frame views of the fields and distant mountains.

The wine steward points out different varietals of grapes grown at the vineyard: tempranillo with its bold structure, chenin blanc offering bright acidity, and a hint of syrah ripening under the Mexican sun. With soil rich in minerals and a gentle breeze sweeping across the land, it’s easy to see why these grapes thrive. Any visit should be about tasting great wines, but today, it’s about the ladies.  We gather at a shaded terrace, glasses in hand, and sip our way through a selection of estate wines. Today we enjoy a crisp white with citrus notes that dance on the palate.  Yes, this is definitely a place we will bring the ladies.  You might consider it too.
